I opened Awning and nothing happened
That is how it is meant to work. Awning has no Dock icon and opens no window — it lives in the menu bar, the same way Control Centre does.
Look at the right-hand side of the menu bar, at the very top of the screen. Awning adds an icon showing today’s date. Click it and the calendar panel unfurls beneath it. You can also press Option-Command-C.
It is asking for access to my calendars
Awning cannot show you anything without it. macOS offers no read-only level of calendar permission — full access is the only level that exists — so an app that mostly reads still has to ask for all of it. Nothing leaves your Mac; see the privacy policy.
If you said no by accident, turn it back on in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars.
My events are not showing up
Awning starts by showing the calendars you can write to, and hides subscribed feeds, delegated calendars and room calendars — otherwise a work account can bury your day under holiday feeds and meeting rooms. Open Settings from the panel and tick whichever ones you want.
If a calendar is missing entirely, check it is switched on in Apple’s Calendar app first. Awning reads the same calendar store, so anything absent there will be absent here.
Making the panel bigger or smaller
Drag the divider between the month and the agenda. It settles into three sizes — one week, a full month, or two months at once. Awning remembers the size for each display separately, so a laptop screen and an external monitor can differ.
The Join button is missing on a meeting
Awning looks for a video link in the event’s URL field, its location, and its notes. If the invitation has no link in any of those, there is nothing to join. Sending the event — with anything private removed — to the address above genuinely helps; the parser improves by being shown real invitations it got wrong.
Changing the keyboard shortcuts
Settings → Shortcuts. Click a shortcut, press the keys you want, and it is saved. Press Escape to cancel or Delete to clear. If another app has already claimed that combination, Awning will tell you rather than failing silently.
Editing an event
Awning creates and deletes events, and opens existing ones in Calendar for editing. Full in-panel editing is coming in version 1.1.
Uninstalling
Drag Awning from your Applications folder to the Trash. It leaves nothing running and adds nothing to your calendars. Any events you created with it are ordinary calendar events and stay where they are.
Requirements
macOS 26.0 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel.
